GAIN is a joint project of Gujarat National Law University and the University of Akron School of Law, established to promote greater understanding of the intellectual property system and related institutions in India.
GAIN’s programs seek to study and build a more effective IP system for India. India is rising to become a world leader in innovation and creativity. GAIN seeks to help the citizens, businesses, and economy of India thrive by supporting their creative and innovative capacities.
GAIN combines the strengths and resources of a leading Indian law school with one of the best established IP law programs in the U.S. to promote stronger bilateral Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) policy, law, and business ties between India and the United States.
GAIN will promote the exchange of ideas, expertise, and information among scholars, policy experts, businesses, and civil society regarding intellectual property, innovation, and creativity within India and between India and the United States.
Expert Network. GAIN is building a network of Indian and US experts on intellectual property who frequently share their ideas and collaborate on GAIN initiatives.
Policy Roundtables. Our roundtables gather scholars, industry leaders, innovators, creators, and policymakers, creating an opportunity for collaboration on scholarship and policy, based soundly on both research and practice.
GAIN will promote better understanding of and expertise in the IP system by providing training and professional education.
IPR Teachers Institute. As IP grows in importance in India, India needs greater IP expertise to train the next generation of IP managers and leaders. Starting Summer 2021, GAIN will start building this expertise by hosting an annual training program for teachers of intellectual property law at Indian universities.
Capacity Building. GAIN will host continuing legal education events and provide training to Indian technology transfer offices, as GAIN’s founders have been doing previously working with the Patent Facilitation Committee of the Indian Government.
Legal Education. GAIN will promote regular exchanges of professors and students and host online classes jointly taught at both GNLU and Akron.
GAIN supports essential research on the law, economics, and policy of intellectual property. GAIN’s research aims to provide an expert resource for Indian policymakers, innovators, creators, businesses, and investors in India.
Academic and Policy Research. GAIN’s white papers and scholarly research on intellectual property issues in India support legal reform and capacity building.
Conferences. GAIN’s conferences will focus on key IP issues for India, spotlighting GAIN’s top-quality research and contributing valuable perspectives to the academic and policy discussions on intellectual property.
