Dear Participant of SIPRI-GNLU Essay Competition,

Thank you for contributing to the SIPRI-GNLU Essay Competition on Disarmament Law with a theme of Contemporary Challenges in Disarmament and Non-proliferation!

We are delighted to announce the three winners:

  • First prize is awarded to Essay #22 on “Prioritizing Gender in Non-proliferation and Arms Control through Soft-Law”. This essay was submitted by Ananya Sahu, Student, B.A.,LL.B (Hons.) from Rajiv Gandhi University of Law, Patiala, Punjab. The first prize winner will hereby receive the Cash Price of INR 10000 with a certificate. Additionally, SIPRI hereby invites the winner to attend the annual Alva Myrdal Centre Conference in Uppsala, Sweden (in-person) on 14-15 June, 2023.
  • Second prize is awarded to Essay #23 on the topic “Risks posed by Autonomous Weapons and the need for regulation under IHL”. This essay was submitted by Joanna Joshua, Student, B.B.A.,LL.B (Hons.) from Symbiosis Law School, Pune. The second prize winner will receive cash prize of INR 7500 along with a Certificate.
  • Third prize is awarded to Essay #33 on the topic “IHL: Cyberwarfare (Fair?)”. This essay was submitted by Smriti Jaiswal, Student, B.A.,LL.B from National Law School of India University, Bangalore. The second prize winner will receive the cash price of INR 5000 along with a certificate.
  • The winners will be contacted individually for further information.

  • The participant in the Essay Competition will also receive a Certificate of Participation. They will be contacted individually for further information.
