India has long been in the process of becoming an open economy, and day-by day it`s economy is becoming heavily dependent upon international trade for its prosperity. Consequently, Indian businesses are increasingly contracting with parties overseas. On 19th February, 2013, the U.K. Prime Minister, David Cameron called on India to open up sectors such as insurance, banking, retail etc., more to overseas investment and make it easier for foreign companies to do business here, as he began a three-day visit to the South Asian nation. This directly puts the spotlight on internationalization of contract laws so as to enable global outreach.
Being an upcoming field of study, and more-so-ever in India, there are unchartered territories in the field of International Contracts, which this endeavor of Gujarat National Law University strives to explore and share with the International forum.

Book on International Contracts: Laws governing trade between businesses in different jurisdictions have existed since the thriving of the merchant culture in the medieval period. As businesses have grown beyond national borders, and business relations have expanded and deepened, the legal dimensions of business have had to follow suit and acquire an international dimension. International Contract Law concerns itself with the legal rules relating to cross-border agreements. While it leaves much to party autonomy, it provides certain defined legal standards and rules for parties to abide by should they choose to, and for the settlement of disputes should they arise. India has long been in the process of becoming an open economy, and day-by-day her economy is becoming heavily dependent upon international trade for her prosperity. Consequently, Indian businesses are increasingly contracting with parties overseas.

The 1st GNLU-ONGC International Essay Competition on International Contracts, was conducted with the theme "Recent Trends in International Contract, Jurisdictional Issues and the Global Commercial and Investment Governance" was successfully conducted and completed, and the results declared, in April 2014.
