Certificate Course on Law and Business of Entertainment, 20-22 September, 2018


The Centre in collaboration with BananaIP (BIP) Counsels conducted a three day Certificate Course on Law and Business of Entertainment from 20-22 September, 2018. The certificate course gave a bird's eye view of the basics of the law and business of entertainment. It included specific sessions on entertainment contracts, negotiation skills, entertainment disputes and resolution. The course was inaugurated by Dr. Dhiraj Kakadia, Commissioner, Entertainment and Luxury Tax, Government of Gujarat. A total of 34 participants attended the course from all around the country. Mr. Sanjeeth Hegde, Senior Partner, BananaIp and Ms. Anchita Sharma, IP Attorney, BananaIP were the resource persons for the certificate course.

Sports Law Academy on Corruption in International Sport, 9-13 July, 2018


GCSEL organized India’s first Sports Law Academy on Corruption in International Sports from 9-13 July, 2018. Mr. Hayden Opie, Senior Fellow, Melbourne Law School and Member, Court of Arbitration for Sports and Dr. Laurent Vidal, Professor, University Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne were invited as the resource persons for the five day long Academy. The Centre witnessed 30 participants coming from various parts of the country. Our esteemed resource persons discussed about corruption issues in sports in relation to match-fixing/spot fixing, doping, event hosting rights, sponsorships, advertising, etc.

Three Day Certificate Course on Gaming Laws, 20th to 22nd January, 2017 by Mr. Amrut Joshi, GameChangers Law Advisors

The three day certificate course covered the foundational legal principles of Gaming Laws in India as well as related contemporary issues. The course apprised the participants with dynamics of gaming contracts, gaming laws around the world and the interplay of other laws with gaming laws.

Three Day Certificate Course on Sports Law and Management, 6th to 8th January, 2017 by Mr. Shivam Singh, Advocate, Supreme Court of India

The three day certificate course was a unique blend of Sports Law and Management. It incorporated diverse themes such as the jurisprudence of national and international sports dispute resolution, sports broadcasting issues, public interest litigation in sports along with other contemporary issues dominating the discourse on Sports Law.

Three Day International Certificate Course on European Union and Sport, 15th to 17th February, 2016 Prof. (Dr.) Ian Blackshaw

The aim of this Course was to provide a comprehensive introduction to EU Sports Law and Practice for students and practitioners, who liked to know more about this important and evolving subject.

Athleta Legalus- Quiz cum Debating Competition, 10th September, 2015

Athleta Legalus, a quiz cum debate competition on Sports Law was organized in Gujarat National Law University, (GNLU) Gandhinagar by GNLU's Centre for Sports Law on 10th September 2015. During the event, Gujarat National Law University also signed and MoU with Swarnim Gujarat Sports University (SGSU), Gandhinagar to encourage more and more budding lawyers to take up Sports Law as a career.

The debate event was chaired by Hon'ble Justice Mukul Mudgal, Chief Justice (Retd.)of Hon’ble Punjab and Haryana High Court; Dr. Jatin Soni, Vice Chancellor of SGSU; Dr. Bimal N. Patel, Director of Gujarat National Law University and Dr. Richa Sharma, Director of Center of Sports Law, Gujarat National Law University. This unique competition was based on IPL betting and Mudgal and Lodha Committee reports. 16 teams from different institutions took part in the event. This Quiz and Debate Session, was a dialogue platform with an underpinning intention to spread awareness and educate youth about the importance and various regulations of Sports Law in India. This innovative quiz-cum-debate competition focused on pressing legal issues arising in sports fraternity, significantly leading to the development and evolution of Sports Law as a discipline in India.

Hon'ble Justice Mukul Mudgal delivered in his speech that for being a good sportsman, one must learn to lose. It helps in building his character. Out of the 16 teams that participated in the preliminary quiz round hosted by Vinay Narayan, a student of GNLU, 8 teams qualified for the next round. In the next round hosted by Jalaj Maheshwari, a Second year student of GNLU, Pundrikaksh Mitruka and Akshansh Sharma emerged victorious and got a prize money of Rs. 2000/-. 4 teams qualified for the debating round which was bagged by Guneet Singh Marwah and Shubhang Joshi who were given prize money worth Rs. 6000/- and a trophy by Hon'ble justice Mukul Mudgal. Vir Britto and Param Bhalerao were the runners up in the final debating event and were give prize money of Rs. 4000/- .

One Day Training Workshop on Doping Regulations and Sports Contracts, 18th April, 2015

One day training workshop on Doping Regulations and Sports Contracts was held on 18th April, 2015 with knowledge partnership of National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA), New Delhi and participant contribution from Sports Authority of India (SAI), Western Centre, Gandhinagar. The workshop covered issues such as sports contracts, doping and its consequences, malpractices in the sports industry, etc.

Certificate Course on Sports Law and Management, 6th to 8th, September 2014

GNLU Centre for Sports Law (GCSL) organized a 15 hours Certificate Course on “Sports Law and Management”. The Certificate Course was a tailor-made course for all the stakeholders concerning the field of sports law and sports management including lawyers, management professionals, law students, management students, law graduates, management graduates. The course that witnessed 60 participants from all over India was inaugurated by Mr. Justice (Retd.) Mukul Mudgal of Hon’ble Punjab & Haryana High Court and Mr. Geet Sethi, professional billiards player and dealt with topics such as- prelude to management and law, sports as business, sports at workplace, etc.

Special Lecture Series on Understanding the Issues Related to Match Fixing in Cricket

Special lecture series was organized wherein various sports lawyers and sports person invited to give lectures on myriad issues related to sports law. The lecture was delivered by experts such as Mr. Anshuman Gaekwad (former Indian Cricket coach), Mr. Aruneshwar Gupta (Advocate, Hon’ble Supreme Court) and Prof. (Dr.) Amaresh Kumar (Sports Authority at Court of Arbitration for Sports, Switzerland).
