GCBPP launched the first edition of "GNLU - Nishith Desai Associates Policy Drafting Competition" on April 2, 2024. The theme of the event was ‘Navigating the Regulatory Landscape of Climate Financing at GIFT IFSC’, underscoring the importance of adapting to evolving regulations and promoting sustainability in financial activities. On the basis of the policy problem, participants drafted innovative policy proposals for implementation of a regulatory framework for blended finance at GIFT IFSC. Over 60 registrations were received, out of which top 11 teams were invited to GNLU to present their proposals. The event was graced by Shri K. Rajaraman (Chairperson, IFSCA), Shri Nishith Desai (Founder, Nishith Desai Associates) and Shri Praveen Trivedi (Executive Director, IFSCA). On the sidelines of the event, a roundtable discussion was also held on the theme- ‘Mobilising Green Capital through Blended Finance’. Various industry professionals and legal counsels in the domain of Sustainable Financing and ESG were panel members for the discussion.
The "3rd Edition of GNLU International Conference on Business, Law & Public Policy" held on March 2nd & 3rd, 2024, was a resounding success. Papers were invited under various themes like Corporate Law, Securities Law, Taxation, Competition Law, Banking & Finance, among others. Over 75 research paper submissions were received from 40+ universities, out of which top 24 were shortlisted for presentation at the Conference. The inauguration ceremony was graced by Hon’ble Shri Justice Somasekhar Sundaresan (Additional Judge - Bombay High Court) as the Chief Guest. Other Guests of Honor and Keynote Speakers included – Mr. Abhijit Joshi (Founder & Managing Partner, Veritas Legal); Mr. Krishnava Dutt (Founder & Managing Partner, Argus Partner); Mr. Sudhir Bassi (Executive Director, Khaitan & Co); and Ms. Nisha Kaur Oberoi (National Head – Competition Law Practice, Trilegal), among various others. Our diverse panel for evaluating the research papers includes Partners, Principal Associates, and Senior Associates from various top-tier law firms such as Trilegal, Khaitan & Co, Economic Law Practice and Finsec Law Advisors, along with industry practitioners from banks, and academicians from various universities.
GCBPP in association with Khaitan & Co has successfully conducted the GNLU - Khaitan & Co Advanced Certificate Programme on Capital Markets & Securities Law, 2023-24. The programme was curated by Mr. Aditya George Cheriyan and Mr. Oishik Bagchi, Partners at Khaitan & Co. It was aimed at developing a strong foundational understanding of capital markets and securities laws, and related practical aspects. Participants were provided with 60 hours of intense training by Partners from Khaitan & Co, regulatory experts from IFSCA and Ex-SEBI, academicians from leading universities, Investment Bankers, and Financial Auditors.
The offline leg of the course was conducted at the GNLU campus, Gandhinagar from 26th January to 30th January, 2024. It comprised over 25 hours of intense training on various capital markets regulations. Practical exposure was also provided through field visits to IFSCA (International Financial Services Centres Authority) and India INX (India International Exchange (IFSC) Ltd) at GIFT IFSC. The present edition of the course saw participation from 70 students represented by over 23 universities across India. Top performing eligible candidates will also be provided with internship opportunities at Khaitan & Co with their capital markets team.
GCBPP inaugurated the year 2024 with its 4th "Know Your Practice (KYP)" session on 13th January, 2024. This session was graced by the presence of Mr. Indranath Bishnu (Partner - General Corporate) and Mr. Anirud Sudarshan (Principal Associate - General Corporate) from Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas. Mr. Indranath Bishnu specializes in the general corporate landscape with a focus on the insurance industry. The session kicked off with engaging student queries. Mr. Indranath highlighted the importance of academic excellence and emphasized holistic student development, including mooting, research, and leadership skills. Mr. Anirud shared his journey to become a Principal Associate, focusing on the initial challenges in a law firm and stressing the significance of adaptability. The speakers encouraged students to be inquisitive, sincere, and diligent to have fruitful internship experiences. The session concluded with a glimpse into the intricacies of M&A deals, showcasing the growing opportunities in the field, presented by Mr. Indranath.
GCBPP organised its 3rd “Know Your Practice (KYP)” session on 9th October, 2023 which is a flagship initiative of GCBPP. This KYP was graced by the presence of Mr. Vikram Shroff (Head- HR Laws, Employment and Labour) from Nishith Desai Associates (NDA). Mr. Vikram Shroff has 25 years of work experience in NDA, focused on “Introduction to HR & Employment Laws” in the session. He emphasised on how HR laws not only involve labour laws but also other plethora of laws. He touched upon different topics such as “DE&I - Diversity, Equity & Inclusion”, impact of AI on workforce, labour codes, cases pertaining to usage of social media by employees, non-compete and non-solicitation clauses in an employment contract. He also talked about the emergence of new rights under the fora of HR laws such as, Right to Disconnect from Work which means that the employees will not be associated with the work after their duty is over, Right to Sleep which says that the employer cannot ask for the work to be done by compromising the sleeping time of the employees and Right to equal pay which emphasizes upon the equality of pay without any discrimination on the basis of gender, caste, race, sexual identity and etc.
The GCBPP organised its 2nd “Know Your Practice (KYP)” session on September 19, 2023 which is a flagship initiative of GCBPP. This KYP was graced by legal luminaries from Nishith Desai Associates - Dr. Milind Antani (Head- Social Sector Practice, Leader- Pharma & Healthcare) and Mr. Rahul Rishi (Leader- Social Sector & Blended Finance Practice). The interactive session focused on “Social Sector, Healthcare and Pharma”. While Dr. Milind Antani shared his inspiring journey from ENT Surgeon to a Legal Professional along with certain aspects of Pharmaceutical Law, Mr. Rahul Rishi spoke about the promising future of the Social Stock Exchanges in India.
The GCBPP organized its flagship event "Business Quiz'' on 14th September, 2023 in Gujarat National Law University. 100 students participated in the competition which had very interesting questions prepared by the quiz master Mr. Diganto Sarkar who tested the business acumen and knowledge of the participants. It was conducted in two rounds, first at the preliminary level where all the students participated and then the final round wherein 6 teams were the ultimate finalists. The team comprising Kavya Ramasubramanian and Prajwal V. won the First prize. The team of Nishant Mishra and Tanay Hindocha secured the Second prize and the team comprising Mihir Wagh and Karishma Mari secured the Third prize. These top 3 teams were awarded cash prizes worth Rs. 5000, Rs. 3000 and Rs 2000 each.
On September 4, 2023, GCBPP signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Khaitan & Co. The signing ceremony was held in the presence of Prof. (Dr.) S Shanthakumar (Director – GNLU), Mr. Aditya George Cheriyan and Mr. Oishik Bagchi (Partners at Khaitan & Co, Capital Markets practice). This partnership aims to collaborate for the GNLU – Khaitan & Co Advanced Certificate Programme on Capital Markets & Securities Law. The program, spanning over two months and offering five academic credits, will be led by partners and principal associates from Khaitan & Co along with domain experts from various regulators (like SEBI, IFSCA etc.), eminent professors from leading universities and independent practitioners. The next edition is tentatively scheduled for December 2023 - January 2024.
On September 4, 2023, GCBPP launched its flagship event, "Know Your Practice" (KYP), aimed at bridging the gap between legal practitioners from diverse practice areas and students. Through this series, students would be provided an orientation into different practice areas of a law firm, enabling them to explore the same through their internships. The session on Capital Markets was held in association with Khaitan & Co. Mr. Aditya George Cheriyan, and Mr. Oishik Bagchi (Partners at Khaitan & Co, Capital Markets practice) were the speakers for the event. The session provided an overview of capital markets as a practice area and addressed students' questions regarding current market developments, regulatory actions and what to expect from a career in this practice area.
GCBPP organized the "2nd GNLU International Conference on Business, Law, and Public Policy," on March 3rd and 4th, 2023, which revolved around the extensive themes of banking, finance, securities law, taxation, and allied legal disciplines. The event garnered an overwhelming response, with over 70 teams from across the country presenting their papers. The conference was graced by prominent keynote speakers such as Shri Hasmukh Adhia (Principal Advisor to the Chief Minister of Gujarat, and Former Finance Secretary of India), Mr. Ashwath Rau (Senior Partner - AZB & Partners), Mr. Nishith Desai (Founder - Nishith Desai Associates), Shri Vijay Kumar ITS (Additional Directorate General of Foreign Trade), Shri Praveen Trivedi (Executive Director – International Financial Services Centre Authority), Mr. Vishal Yaduvanshi (Partner at IndusLaw) and Mr. Sumit Agarwal (Founding Partner at Regstreet Law Advisors), among many others.
The first edition of the conference in 2018 was graced by Mr. Shaktikanta Das (RBI Governor), Shri Ashish Chauhan (Former MD & CEO, BSE), Dr. Rajiv Kumar (Former NITI Aayog Vice-Chairman), among others.
GCBPP launched the first edition of “Advanced Certificate Programme in Capital Markets and Securities Laws” on 3rd December 2022. The course consisted of quintessential components of the transactional side of securities law and mechanics of capital markets which are absent from the law school curriculum. The programme comprised a distinguished and renowned panel of experts ranging from partners at top-tier corporate law firms across India to senior officials at regulators like IFSCA and SEBI. The curriculum was a blend of theoretical and applied knowledge, covering both, regulatory framework, and technical aspects of the capital markets. The course lasted for 70 hours and was conducted in a distinctive hybrid fashion, making it truly one-of-a-kind.

The GCBPP held its flagship "Business Quiz" event at Gujarat National Law University on October 3, 2022, with 100 student participants. The quiz featured challenging questions to test participants' business knowledge in two rounds: a preliminary round for all students and a final round with six teams. Kavya Ramasubramanian and Prajwal's team secured the First prize, followed by Vedik Krishnan and Alankar Bhatnagar in Second place, and Satej Desale and Shubham Mangla in Third place. These top teams received cash prizes of Rs. 5000, Rs. 3000, and Rs. 2000 each.
GNLU Centre for Business and Public Policy successfully concluded workshop on 'Foundations and Fundamentals of Financial Modeling' held on 17th and 19th September 2019. The workshop served as a perfect compliment for participants who want to explore career in space of Equity Research, Project Finance and Merger and Acquisition Advisory. It was a primer to enable participants to get an understanding of building a model and some primary analysis.
GNLU Centre for Business and Public Policy organized ‘Business Quiz’ on 10th September 2019. The quiz enabled students to expand their knowledge in the area of business. Souvik Nath and Anand Kumar were the winners of the Quiz and Akhileshwari Anand Raj and Vamsi K secured the runners up position.

The virtual trading program was organized by GCBPP for the GNLU students with the objective of providing knowledge of the actual working of stock markets, how stocks are traded in real markets and its fluctuations which provide an in- depth knowledge of bullish and bearish markets.
