Mr. S. N. Sahu was appointed as Joint Secretary in the Rajya Sabha Secretariat in April 2007. So far he has completed four years as Joint Secretary. He has served as Director in the Prime Minister’s Office where he dealt with draft speeches, messages and research work for the consideration and the use of Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh. He also was the Media Advisor to Prime Minister and Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister and was entrusted with duties to look after their research work. He served as Officer on Special duty and Press Secretary to the late President of India Shri K.R.Narayanan. He served Vice-President of India and Chairman, Rajya Sabha Shri K.R. Narayanan and handled his parliamentary and research work from 1993 to 1997.
As Director of Rajya Sabha Secretariat, he served both the research service and the Department-related Parliamentary Standing Committee on Science and Technology. He has also been instrumental in the creation of Media Cell in Rajya Sabha. He has been conferred with Vocational Award for Excellence by the Rotary Club of Mumbai and Thane in 2007 for purposeful contributions to society through academic studies.
K K Mohapatra was born in Cuttack in 1953 and educated at Ravenshaw College and Banaras Hindu University. He joined the Indian Revenue Service in 1976. An award-winning writer and translator, he has published a novel, two volumes of short stories, a book of essays in Oriya and over fifteen books of translation in English. Currently he lives and works in Bhubaneswar.
Uday Mahurkar is a senior editor with India Today magazine and a political analyst with a reputation for making correct electoral predictions. He is an expert on Gujarat’s developmental and social scenario having covered the State for the magazine since 1987. He has chronicled Gujarat from almost every angle in the past more than two decades and has therefore seen its evolution from a close range. He was the only journalist who correctly predicted BJP's thumping victory in the 2002 Vidhan Sabha elections.
As a journalist, he is committed to protecting traditional Indian values without rejecting the western or modern trends that are positive. An amateur historian, his commitment comes from a deep knowledge of medieval and pre-medieval Indian history which he acquired through reading. He also believes that there is a need to remove distortions in history which have crept in so that all Indians can draw precise lessons from the past to make their future better. He sincerely believes that history, howsoever uncomfortable for any section of the society, shouldn't be tampered with.
At a personal level he is a firm critic of obscenity being promoted in public domain and believes that it corroding the rich Indian culture, weakening family values and leaving a very negative imprint on the society, particularly on children and youngsters. He has done his graduation from the Department of Indian History, Culture and Archaeology at the Maharaja Sayajirao University, Vaodora.
Mr. Mehul Chandrakant Shah is Vice President (Taxation), Cadila Healthcare Limited of Zydus Group, Ahmedabad. He has been working with the group since the past sixteen years. He is a qualified Chartered Accountant and has vast experience in Taxation and Accountancy. He has previously worked with Arvind Mills Ltd., Gujarat Co operative Grain Growers’ Federation Ltd. and M/s. Kasiram Textile Mills Pvt. Ltd.
Ms. Nupur Sinha is the Executive Director and Founding Member of the Centre for Social Justice and Indian Institute of Paralegal Studies. She is a Law Graduate from National Law School, Bangalore. She is a legal activist working in Gujarat on Dalit Rights, Tribal Rights, Women's Rights, and Minority Rights. She has developed the concept and practice of Social Justice Lawyers and Community based Paralegals.
Dr Bimal N. Patel, BSc, MA, LLM, PhD, Post-graduate studies in International Relations and Development, International Relations and Law (the Netherlands), Foreign Policy and Government (Norway), since 2008 serves as Director (Vice-Chancellor) of the Gujarat National Law University, national law university established by the Gujarat Government Act 2003 and recognised for its model standards of education, equity, access and relevance by the University Grants Commission of India. An international civil servant, administrator and scholar of international law and relations: Dr Patel possesses nearly 20 years combined experience of progressively academic leadership and scholarly research experience in international law, international relations, international organizations and academic/professional institutions.He has prepared administrative,
procedural and substantive jurisprudence of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and the International Criminal Tribunal for former Yugoslavia (ICTY) and International Labour Organisation Administrative Tribunal (Geneva).He has published, edited several books, research papers/articles/surveys in leading academic and international law journals. Dr Patel possesses practical experience in dealing with international administrative law (international civil service laws) and organizational staff-management bodies. Dr Patel has experience in designing and implementing international and national development and research programmes and projects and networking and coordination with governmental agencies, UN bodies and academic/research institutions in various parts of the world.
