GNLU is a premier institute of legal education set up in the year 2003 by an Act of the State Legislature. Ever since its inception, the University has endeavoured towards achieving higher standards of legal education and has focused on inculcating practical argumentative skills amongst students through moot court competitions.
With a view to encourage research and advocacy skills on different avenues of law, and to foster the legal analysis pertaining to practical implications of law, the University organises various academic events such as conferences, seminars and a moot court competition- the GNLU International Moot Court Competition (GIMC).
GIMC, the flagship event of GNLU, was launched in 2009 with the objective of organizing an annual moot court competition based on contemporary legal issues under the broad theme of international trade law. Ever since its first edition, GIMC has grown in scope, scale and repute to be recognized by international organizations such as the American Society of International Law (ASIL), the International Law Students Association (ILSA), the Asian Society of International Law (Asian SIL) and the World Trade Institute (WTI). In tandem with the objective and in view of our success, GNLU proposes the organization of another moot court competition which shall be based on securities and investment law.
Securities and investment law landscape in India has witnessed rapid change in the past couple of decades since liberalisation. The rapid growth of the Indian capital markets as well as investment in India has spurred the growth of the accompanying legal framework as well. This development calls for legal professionals to be equipped with the skills to face the new interpretative challenges and also to grab the opportunities that they bring along. Given the interest of the student community in the nuances of these laws and in light of the fact that none of the existing competitions deal with these subjects, a moot on the theme of securities and investment law is the need of the hour.

GNLU is a premier institute of legal education in India, set up in the year 2003 by an Act of the State Legislature. As a Research based University which aims at promotion and development of research methodologies, approaches and skills amongst students, GNLU has endeavored towards organizing various events to achieve its objectives. The University conducts various seminars, moot court competitions and conferences which are spread out during the course of the academic session. To further achieve higher standards of legal education and to inculcate practical argumentative and research skills amongst students, the University has been organizing the GNLU International Moot Court Competition (GIMC) on WTO and allied Trade Laws for the past 8 years. Since its inception in 2009 GIMC has garnered due recognition and popularity for its participation, quality of judges, prizes, professional conduct and hospitality. This has caused GIMC to carve out a niche for itself in the mooting circuit as the only International Moot Court Competition in India dedicated to Trade Laws.
